LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas has selected Jide Wintoki, Capitol Federal Professor of Finance, as the next dean of the KU School of Business. Wintoki first joined the school in 2008, and he currently serves as its associate dean of graduate programs.

He will begin his new role July 1.

“As a longtime member of the KU community, Jide has a deep understanding of the School of Business and its faculty, staff and students, and how they can reach new heights in the years to come,” said Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, university chief academic officer and provost and executive vice chancellor of KU Lawrence and Edwards. “He has been dedicated to teaching, learning and discovery throughout his career, and I’m certain he will continue to be a strong advocate for and facilitator of Jayhawks’ excellence in scholarship and service.”

As the School of Business dean, Wintoki will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer, overseeing its research enterprise, educational programs and administrative units, engaging faculty, staff, students and other external stakeholders to promote a shared vision of excellence for the school.

The dean’s leadership responsibilities also include engaging faculty and staff to work toward alignment with Jayhawks Rising, as well as leading the school's fundraising efforts to transform business education and research as part of KU's Onward capital campaign.

“It is a true and singular honor to be chosen to serve as dean of the KU School of Business at this pivotal moment in its history,” Wintoki said. “As we celebrate the school’s first century, I look forward to collaborating with our staff, faculty, alumni, partners across the university and well-wishers to continue to provide students with a transformative educational experience that leads to meaningful success and fulfillment. Working together, we will strengthen the foundation for the school’s next hundred years and ensure that all who invest in our mission see the lasting impact of their support.”

Wintoki will assume responsibilities from Susan Scholz, who has served as interim dean since August. Scholz is a professor of accounting and will resume her position as the school’s executive associate dean.

“I’m deeply appreciative of Susan’s leadership and for guiding the school during this time,” Bichelmeyer said. “I also want to share my thanks to the search committee for their outstanding work and commitment to the search process.”

Since 2020, Wintoki has overseen all business doctoral and master’s programs, including those at the Lawrence and Leavenworth campuses, as well as the school’s online MBA program. He previously served as the area director of Analytics, Information, and Operations.

In 2017, Wintoki was a visiting financial economist in the Office of Litigation Economics within the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Since 2023, he also has been a member of the leadership team for the National Science Foundation-funded Environmentally Applied Refrigerant Technology Hub (EARTH) Engineering Research Center.

Wintoki’s research broadly focuses on corporate and international finance with an emphasis on corporate governance, and he has also examined the intersections of marketing and finance.

He has received several awards for his papers and teaching including the MBA Finance Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award, the Southern Finance Association Meeting’s Best Empirical Finance Paper and the Association of Business Doctoral Students of KU School of Business’ mentor recognition award.

Wintoki earned his doctorate in finance from the University of Georgia and his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lagos in Nigeria.

The KU School of Business is an AACSB-accredited public business school and the second largest unit on the Lawrence campus. The 2024 U.S. News & World Report ranked the School of Business 41st among public business schools.
